Alan Jon Muehlenthaler, age 61, of Ankeny, IA, passed away on April 28, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, also at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Alan was born November 28, 1959, in Des Moines, IA to Shirley Ann (Elsen) and John Muehlenthaler, Jr. He graduated from Ankeny High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business at Middle Tennessee State University.  Alan returned to Ankeny and worked in the hotel/motel management industry.  He was later a long-time employee of Walmart Corporation in various management positions.

Alan was a devoted Broncos football fan, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends watching various sporting events.

While employed at Walmart, Alan resided with his parents and assisted in the care of his dad, John.  Upon John’s death and after retiring, Alan was the primary caregiver to his mom, Shirley.

Alan is survived by his mom, Shirley; sister, Cindi (Muehlenthaler) Olinger; brother, David (Julie) Muehlenthaler; nephews, Jace (Christine) Muehlenthaler, Tyler Muehlenthaler, Nick Olinger and his long-time companion, Cheyenne Azbill; nieces, Michelle Olinger and Shelby Muehlenthaler; great-nephew, Adler Muehlenthaler; and great-niece, Raelyn Olinger

Alan was preceded in death by his dad, John Muehlenthaler, Jr.; and grandparents, Augusta and John Muehlenthaler, Sr., and Lavina and George Elsen.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in his name to On With Life (www.onwithlife.org)

Alan will truly be loved and missed by many forever.
