Catherine “Anita” Brendeland, 93, passed away at Mill Pond on June 7, 2022.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Palestine Lutheran Church (1375 IA-210, Huxley, IA). A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, also at the church. Burial will immediately follow at Palestine Cemetery.

Anita was born February 16, 1929 in Ames, IA to Ole and Bertha (Lande) Hauge. She married John Brendeland and raised their family on a farm north of Alleman, IA.  She enjoyed attending church, time spent with family, and quilting. John and Anita also enjoyed wintering in Arizona. Anita worked for the Secretary of State until retirement.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Nick) Volz and Arlyce Engles; daughter-in-law, Mary Brendeland; nine grandchildren, Chris (Sariah) Brendeland, Bryan (Kelli) Brendeland, Allen Brendeland, Scott (Megan) Brendeland, Tanya Volz, Todd (Stephanie) Volz, Tina (Brad) Carroll, Stacie (Aldo) Medici, and Ryan Engles; 17 great-grandchildren, Cayden and Callie Brendeland, Blake and Brady Brendeland, Tate and Tucker Brendeland, Mabel and Oscar Brendeland, Hailey, Kiley, Jenna, Brooklyn, and Jayson Volz, Penelope, Lola, and Henry Carroll, and Aldo Medici.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and sons, Charles and Lowell Brendeland.

The family would like to thank Pastor Eric, the caregivers at Mill Pond, and Memorial Services of Iowa.
