God gained a loving angel, dog lover, quilter and gardener on December 31, 2020 when Ann Marie Finger passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home.

Ann was born June 29, 1956 to John and Mabel (Kupka) Schwamman in Decorah, IA. Growing up in Fort Atkinson, IA, Ann learned to be a giving caretaker as the oldest of seven children. After graduating from Turkey Valley High School in Jackson Junction, IA, she earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. While in college, she was active in her Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and worked in banking. During this time, she met her future husband, Dave Finger, and they married on November 25, 1978.

Ann’s kind heart grew larger as she gave birth to sons, Matt in 1983, and Jeff in 1984. She embraced her family, enriching life for all of them with happy memories of her caring for their dogs, Killer and then Belle, many summer vacations, camping, teaching religion at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, and living her role as a Boy Scout Leader for many years. Seeing Matt and Jeff earn and receive their Eagle Scout awards, Bachelor’s Degrees, their marriages, and arrival of grandchildren made her so very proud and happy.

Spending time with family was everything. Ann balanced life incredibly well between family, work, volunteering and quilting. She was a dedicated and fair team member; more importantly, she was a kind and giving soul to all. When her boys were younger, she worked at the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union. She then became the Controller at Central Service and Supply, Inc. Intelligent, organized and ethical, she fulfilled her accounting/managerial duties in the best way possible. Ann retired just 18 months ago to share more time with her ‘littles’. Her hobbies and sense of giving took on many forms. An avid quilter, she made countless ‘Quilts of Valor’ for the Iowa Veteran’s Home as well as many quilts for family and friends. More often than not, she was found handing out treats to her furry dog friends. Ann’s yard was filled with flowers, vegetables and holiday décor which was such a joy to family, friends and neighbors, and while being an avid reader finding a free minute, her nose was in a book.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 42 years, Dave; two sons, Matt and Jeff (Lindsay); and grandchildren, Davis, Bradley, Madisyn and Peyton. Ann is also survived by her mother, Mabel Schwamman of Fort Atkinson, IA; and five siblings, Faye Hansen of Waterloo, IA, Eva (Paul) Bishop of Altoona, IA, Joel (Renee) Schwamman of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jay (Mary) Schwamman of Fort Atkinson, IA, and Jill (Kirk) Opdahl of Lees Summit, MO. In heaven, she reunites with her father, John (1995); and her brother, John (1973). Others celebrating her memory include her large, extended family – sisters in law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as many friends.

Those who knew our dear Ann well, you are aware she was a very humble person. To honor her wishes and due to Covid-19 concerns, services will be held in a simple fashion at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). There will be a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2020 with a prayer service immediately following visitation. A livestream of the prayer service can be viewed at: https://vimeo.com/494244060

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or your local food pantry.
