Service Date: January 20, 2024
Funeral Home Memorial Services of Iowa
Our hearts ache as we share that the light Autumn brought into this world beginning July 20, 2001, left this earth and rose to the sky as she passed from this world to the next on the afternoon of January 3, 2024.
A visitation with family greeting friends will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a service beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd).
She is survived by her father Timothy Smith, mother January Seymour, brothers River and Lynx, and her stepfather Jeffrey Bartscher who were all blessed to be by her side as she took her final journey to the sky. She also leaves behind a large extended family including her beloved grandmothers, and her many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends that she loved as family.
When Autumn graduated from North Polk High School in 2019, none of us expected that her life would seemingly be as brief as a comet’s path across the night sky, and yet it was. Even though Autumn has left this world in body, her spirit, her memory, her big heart full of love, her passions, and her dreams will live on in those who loved her.
Her sketches and art will continue to be looked upon with adoring eyes and hearts. The many books Autumn read will be shared with others who share her passion for literature and they will be blessed to share moments across time and space with Autumn as they dive into the same world within the books she loved. Autumn’s deep love of animals will live on with the quiet moments and joyful play that will continue to be shared with the furry and feathered family and friends that share our homes and the beautiful country views that she loved.
Autumn’s love of gardening will live on as the seeds she helped gather are planted in the spring soil. In every sweet bite we take of fresh fruits and vegetables that are grown with the same kind of love, kindness, and care that she brought to so many gardens, we will remember her passion and skills that began to bloom when she was only 2 and lasted her next 20 years.
Music across generations and genres will touch our hearts and souls with memories of Autumn’s love of music. From the classic rock of the 60’s and 70’s on her vinyl collection to the modern tunes of AJR or Billie Eilish playing on iTunes, her memory will live on in the music that fills our lives.
Autumn’s love of photography will not only live on in her photos as we look upon them, but in each time we take a moment to carefully compose a photo in the same way she would so that a memory of love, a celebration, or the beauty of nature could be captured and relived again in the future through images that evoke emotion.
Most of all, Autumn’s kind and loving heart will continue to touch the world in spirit if not in body. Each time her loved ones volunteer, use our voices to speak up for what’s important, take an action to support one of the many meaningful causes she was so passionate about, or even when we simply take an extra moment to perform a small act of kindness, we can do so in honor of all the good, the love, and the kindness she brought, and had hoped to continue to bring, into the world.
