Avery Clow, 85, passed away on Thursday, February 9th, 2023, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd).

Avery was born Evelyn Lucille Avery on August 2nd, 1937, in Shell Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Alberta (Scoles) Avery. She attended Shell Rock High School. She helped on the family farm and loved to play basketball in high school.

Avery worked as a Veterinary Assistant and a Dental Hygienist in Hudson, Iowa. She met Steve, the love of her life, in 1979 and they were married in Palm Springs, California, in 1981. She and Steve moved to Ankeny in 2007 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Avery never met a stranger and was always eager to make new friends and take care of those dear friends at Maplewood Village. Although she struggled with health challenges, she was rarely seen without a smile and was always ready to share a laugh.

Avery’s two greatest joys in life were growing together beautifully with her husband and adoring and doting on her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Steve, brother, Neil (Barb) Avery, her children, Michael (Janaan) Roberts, Michelle Minnehan and Melodee (John) Volk, step-children, Matthew Clow, Diane Clow, Philip Clow, grandchildren, Megan Volk, Rachel Volk, Sarah Minnehan, Katie Minnehan, Nathan Roberts, Nichol (Josh) Doughtery, Alexis (Kyle) Condon, many great grandchildren, and so very many wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Roberts, son, Matthew, her parents, brother, Darrel Avery, and sisters, Arris Eckstein and Carrie Duell.
