Betty Harriette (Hyler) Chapman, 76, passed away March 11, 2021 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born October 17, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Forest and Corinne (Knutson) Hyler. Betty and her twin sister (stillborn) joined a large and loving family.

Betty graduated from Tech High School and worked in the clerical field until her marriage to Ronald J. Chapman. After her husband completed his military career in Germany, they made their home in Des Moines and later in Polk City, Iowa. Betty later worked in the food industry, and retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield after working in the printing department for many years. She enjoyed needle work and time spent with her family and friends.

Betty was a loving and proud mother to her sons, Robert and Kenneth Chapman. Their families cared and loved for her as she went through cancer and Lewy Body dementia.

Betty is survived by her son, Robert (Missy); daughter-in-law, Carrie; grandchildren, Brett Chapman, Kayla Chapman (Jason Miller), Abigail Chapman, John (Jessica) Chapman, and Alex (Tabitha) Chapman; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Easton, Stella, and Elsie; siblings, Kermit (Barb) Hyler, Marliss (Roger) Day, and Arliss (Kraig) Bonner; many nieces and nephews; and long time friend, Sheryl Peterson.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Kenneth; siblings and their spouses, Jane and LaVerne Sheehy, Gene and Sue Hyler, and James Sr. and Bonnie Hyler.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
