Beverly Faye Sewell Nelson, 90, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away of a brain hemorrhage, on February 14, 2021. A visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Ankeny Memorial Funeral Home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Beverly was born to Evelyn Kimball Sewell and Ora Sewell, on November 18, 1930, in Shell Rock, Iowa. Bev graduated from Shell Rock High School and continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa). Upon graduation she taught second grade in Nora Springs and Caldwell, Iowa for two years.

Bev was married to James Nelson, on May 28, 1952. They went on to have three children, Dea, Chip, and Brian.

She was an active member of the Ankeny United Methodist Church for 58 years, where she volunteered on numerous committees and participated in United Methodist Women. Her hobbies included spoiling her family, quilting, reading, and genealogy, in which she was an integral part in helping to establish The Ankeny Genealogical Chapter.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jim; their three children, Dea Nelson (Jerry) Green of Johnston, Iowa, Chip Nelson of West Des Moines, Iowa, Brian (Joni) Nelson, of Plymouth, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Chase (Holli) Nelson, of Plymouth, Minnesota, Abby (John) Bilyk, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Alex Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two great grandchildren, Rowan Nelson and Blake Bilyk.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Ora Sewell and her brother, Dean.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ankeny First United Methodist Church or the Iowa Genealogical Chapter.
