Billie Joyce Lavender, 88, of Ankeny joined her heavenly family June 21, 2018.
Billie Joyce Lavender was the epitome of a matriarch. She was a caring wife, daughter, mother, grandparent and cherished friend. She volunteered and was an active member in her church. Joyce enjoyed extensive ocean travel in the Caribbean and made transforming trips to Europe and Israel with her husband, Gene. Her most treasured moments were holidays and quality time with family.
Joyce made lasting relationships and meaningful connections all through her life. She took great care to ensure that all family and friends were thought of in correspondence. Cards always arrived on time for special occasions. She was very devoted to her family and community and enjoyed book club, PEO and Steven Ministries.
She instilled in all of us the importance of family first. She was the perfect example of unconditional love.
Billie Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 69 years, Gene and their children, Ann James, Ruth Stone (Brian), Jane McDaniel (Jeff) and David Lavender (Hoa). Billie Joyce will also be fondly remembered by her 10 grandchildren, Lauren James, Amy Tegels, Abby McDaniel, Andrea Matteo (Adam) and Alex McDaniel (Brittany), Emma Stone and Evan Stone, Claire Lavender, Andrew Lavender, Samuel Lavender and 10 great-grandchildren. As well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
