Brenda Kay Hutt, 72, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Mercy Hospital surrounded by family.

Brenda was born in Searcy, AR, to William and Alice Howell on October 30, 1943. As a toddler, her family moved to Pontiac, MI, where she resided until she was 18. Brenda married her childhood sweetheart, Harry Hutt, and they moved to Sheldahl, IA, where they raised their family.

Brenda worked as a CMA at a nursing facility in Madrid for many years. She later worked at Fashion Floors, and eventually began at Casey’s General Store in Carney, IA, as a Store Manager where she worked for over 20 years until her retirement in 2011.

Brenda enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and creating gifts for her loved ones. She loved books, video games, and long visits with her family. She loved teaching the young children in the family how to bake, make crafts, and helped with schoolwork. She had a special bond with her twin sister, Glenda, and they spoke on the telephone almost daily. Family was her priority, and everyone felt important when they were with her.

Her husband, Harry, of 38 years, predeceased Brenda in 1999. Her father passed away in 1989, followed by her mother in 1994. She also lost an infant brother in 1950.

Surviving are her two daughters, Vicki (Dave) Lyons and Cathi (Marcy) Hutt. Five grandchildren, Dawn Lyons, Rebecca Lyons, Brittany Chapman, Bailey Reese and Chastity Thompson. Seven great-grandchildren, Staijha, Keonna, Harold, Destinia, Travon, Lucas and Norah. Five sisters, Nellave Scott, Joyce Steffens, Glenda Giordano, Catherine Crutchfield, Christine Hagemeister, and one brother, Jerry Howell.

Brenda was deeply loved by her family, and served as a matriarch and mentor. She taught her children and following generations the meaning of patience, tolerance, generosity, integrity, trustworthiness, and loyalty. Above all else, she valued God and family. She will be missed greatly, every day.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MPN Research Foundation.
