Carolyn June Massy, 91, went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2021. Carolyn was born on June 3, 1930, in Sheldahl, IA to William and Edith Hedlund Miller.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2021, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). Burial will take place immediately after at Story Memorial Gardens in Ames, IA.

After graduating from Luther High School Carolyn attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. She entered the teaching profession in Roland, IA where she was asked to set up a kindergarten class, which was not in existence at the time. She loved her students there and talked of them often and how they invited her back upon their high school graduation. Carolyn then moved to teach in Clinton, IA where she met her husband, Thomas J. Massy. She was united in marriage to him on June 27, 1954, and they moved to Manistique, MI. Carolyn helped her in-laws with their fishing resort and worked in a clothing store. Her husband surprised her by re-enlisting in the Navy and they made a move to Port Hueneme, CA. His military service and additional government work took them to several other states. Carolyn was very proud of her husband and of his military career. Upon his retirement, they returned to live in Ames, IA near her family.

Carolyn will be remembered for her jokes and riddles she loved to tell wherever she was. She was called the “jokester” in the assisted living facility that she and her husband lived in for many years. Carolyn was also very good at games, particularly Bingo. She was especially proud of her two grandnephews that carried the Miller name and loved to share jokes with them. She loved her family, and her pleasant smile will be remembered by many.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Thomas; her parents, William and Edith Miller; her sister, Lela Dickey; and her brother, Larry Miller. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Helen Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Special Olympics Iowa.
