Cecil Calkins

June 1, 1935 - April 11, 2023

Cecil F. Calkins, 87, of Johnston, Iowa, passed away peacefully, April 11, 2023.

A Private viewing and prayer service was held on April 13, 2023.

Cecil was born June 1, 1935, in Manly, Iowa, to Forrest and Marcella Calkins. He graduated from Manly High School and served in the Iowa National Guard for 9 years.

Cecil married Margaret (Peggy) Krider of Grafton, Iowa, on October 21, 1956.

Over the course of his career, Cecil worked at the Credit Bureau in Mason City, Iowa, the Amana Feed Mill in Amana, Iowa, and in Sales at Rapids Chevrolet and Allen Motors in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, fishing, and he had a great love for his dog, Mickey. Cecil adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, as well as his quick wit and dry sense of humor.

Cecil is survived by his wife of 66 years, Peggy; his son, Mark Calkins of Ankeny, IA; his daughter, LeeAnne (Sam) Fox of Bonita Springs, FL; his grandchildren: Ryan (Roni) Ford, Dustin Ford, Kelsey (Andrew) Riley, Rachel Calkins, Sara (Andrew) Himelson, and Carsyn Calkins, and his 5 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunny View Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for the exceptional care of Cecil during his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Meadowview of Johnston (5555 Pioneer Pkwy., Johnston, IA 50131).
