Celeste Williams, 90, of Ankeny passed away October 6, 2017.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
Celeste was born August 5, 1927 to Oscar and Marguerite Smith, in Oneida, Iowa. She was adopted and raised by Chet and Edna Gifford of Nevada, Iowa.
She worked for a bank for many years as a head teller, and then went to work as a legal secretary for a law firm in Nevada, Iowa. She moved to Englewood, Colorado (which was where she wanted to be) where she worked as a Secretary for an oil company. She then moved back to Iowa working at two law firms until retiring at 75 years old.
She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She enjoyed music, reading, visits with the “grand fur baby”, Sammy; was an Hawkeye fan, and was passionate about crocheting.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Hapes, and Carol Williams; 2 grandsons) Jeffrey (Amanda) Hapes, and Jeremy (Brittany Alley) Williams (the apple of her eyes; 3 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey C. Hapes, and Quinn and Ryker Hapes; “adopted” children, Cindy Ahrens Corley, Shawn D. Wilkening, Susie Whittaker, Trish Byers, and John Nelson. She also had 4 other children, Stephen, Nancy, Michael, and David, along with 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Taylor House for their exceptional care.
