Charles “Chuck” Colwell, 86, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, surrounded by his family. A visitation will be Thursday, November 10th from 9:30 to 11 am at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (OLIH) in Ankeny, followed by a funeral mass at 11.
A private burial at the St Benedict Cemetery will take place Friday, November 11th.
Chuck was born February 8, 1930 in Algona, Iowa to Leon and Florence Colwell. He graduated from Algona High School and then spent several years farming, and in the roadwork industry before accepting a job at Firestone and moving his wife and eight children to Ankeny in 1968.
After retirement, Chuck enjoyed fishing trips with his friends, an occasional trip to Las Vegas, reading, watching westerns, attending Saturday morning gatherings with friends and a good martini. What he may have loved the most was recalling and telling stories to his friends and relatives.
C huck married his bride, Beverly Capesuis, in St. Benedict, Iowa on November 27, 1951. An early celebration of their 65th anniversary was held this past weekend with all their children and many other family members in attendance.
In addition to Beverly, Chuck is survived by Becky (Mike) Parsons, Randy (Carol) Colwell, Bernie (Monica) Colwell, Diane (Dave) Spiering, Joel (Cathie) Colwell, Kristy Colwell, Kevin ( Karen) Colwell and Mary (Steve) Schneider, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Jean (John) Crehan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Florence Colwell, siblings, Harold Colwell, Doris Davis, Gerry Vander Waal and Gene Colwell, and grandson, Jordan Schneider.
The Colwell family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Wesley Life Hospice team for their care and support during the past few months.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Wesley Life Hospice, 5508 NW 88th, Johnston, IA 50131, or Our Lady’s Immaculate Church, 510 East 1st St., Ankeny, IA 50021.
