Charles Richard Volf (aka Charlie), 84, of Ankeny passed away peacefully, April 2, 2023.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church (1100 S.E. Sharon Dr., Ankeny) with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge.

Charles was born May 12 ,1938, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Ulric and Clara Vosika Volf. He graduated from Otho, IA High School.

Charles met the love of his life, Janice Blaha, and were married on November 8, 1959.

He started working for Balbach Co. in Fort Dodge which was later named Air Products & Chemicals.  The company later transferred Charles to their Des Moines branch in 1990.  He worked 38 years for them and retired in 1991.  He went on to work part time at the Star Light Best Western Hotel as a maintenance technician in Ankeny until he officially retired.

He was an avid handy man who enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, the Model A Club, Boy Scouting and a Scout Leader, traveling abroad, and most important to him was God and family. Charles adored his six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family.

Charles is survived by his wife, Janice; sister, Dorothy Rogers of Fort Dodge; sister- in- law, Nancy and Gene Joslin of Des Moines; children, Julie Klaassen (Dale) of Pomeroy, IA, Timothy Volf (Elizabeth) of Manson, IA, and Ronald Volf (LaDonna) of Badger, IA; grandchildren, Brittany Volf Lamb, Brandon Volf, Ryan Klaassen, Andrew Klaassen, Jacob Volf, Lucas Volf; great grandson, Noah Lamb; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Ulric Volf; and brother-in-law, Don Rogers.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Suncrest Home and Hospice and Rock Creek Senior Living for the exceptional care for Charles during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church (1100 S.E. Sharon Drive, Ankeny, IA 50021) or your local Boys & Girls Scout troop.
