Constance (Connie) Jean White, 84, died March 10, 2018 in Johnston, Iowa surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Martina Place in Johnston.
Connie was the beloved only child of H. Myrle and Helen J. Foose. She was born on June 29, 1933 in Elmwood Illinois. Connie moved to Omaha to attend airline school after graduation from Elmwood High School. She returned to Elmwood after completing the program and married Eldon (Bill) White on April 19, 1952. They moved to Chicago to begin their careers. Shortly thereafter, Bill was called to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Connie moved to Virginia for Bill’s training and then returned home to Elmwood to await their first child, Scott who arrived while Bill was overseas. When Bill returned home from Korea they settled in Elmwood where they started a jewelry store and welcomed two more children. They moved their family to Omaha in 1961 due partly to the opportunities available for their youngest son.
Connie worked for Brandeis, later known as Younkers Department Stores in the Customer Service and Audit area and retired in 1996 from Younkers/Macy stores.
Throughout her life she was a strong advocate for special education and the mainstreaming of special needs children. She developed many hobbies and friends through neighborhood associations, the extension club, square dancing, clock clubs, and the Saturday night card group. She and Bill loved traveling, playing cards, family reunions and rooting for the Huskers and St. Louis Cardinals. Ever resilient, they moved from Omaha to Johnston in 2014.
Survivors include, son Scott Alexander White (Ann Haglund) and daughter Pamela Jean (Randolph) Kroh; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brother-in- law Keith Bennington and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
Connie was predeceased by: her husband of 62 years, her son Kent Eldon White, her parents, mother and father-in-law: Cecil and Anna White, and infant granddaughter Cassie.
The family would like to thank the excellent and caring staff at Martina Place Assisted Living in Johnston who along with fellow residents became cherished friends. Memorials may be directed to Bishop Drum/Martina Place Assisted Living or the Special Olympics.
