Dale Eugene Stall, 89, of Ankeny passed away March 2, 2017.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
Dale was born Sept. 15, 1927 in Grimes, Iowa. In 1935 his family moved to a farm in south Ankeny. In 1941 the construction of the Ordnance plant forced his family to move. They made their new home on a farm north of Ankeny. Dale graduated from Ankeny High School and went on to serve with the US Army in Korea for 2 years.
Upon returning from Korea, he was married to Dolores Nelson in 1955. They lived on the farm where Dale grew up, and together raised 3 children. In addition to children, they raised livestock and crops for a total of 61 years on that farm.
As a youth, Dale was a member of 4H, and his passion for Holstein Dairy Cattle continued into his adult life. He served as the Dairy Superintendent for 30 years at the Polk County Fair.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #42, and a founding member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church, where he served on several committees.
Farming was his lifelong labor, and also his leisure. Dale and Dolores spent many years selling sweet corn, pies, and popcorn at various farmers’ markets. In addition to farming full time, he worked for Kemin Industries for 20 years.
Dale was well known as the “little old man selling sweet corn out of the back of his pickup truck”
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dolores; 3 children Beckie (Bruce) Grenier, Nelson (Jeanne) Stall, and Eric Stall (Dr. Suet Ling Chong); 2 grandchildren, Maggie (Jake) Gonnering and Jeff Grenier (Rachel Abul); 3 great-grandchildren, Ella, Jax, and Amelia; a brother, Dean Stall and sister Beverly Allen; and many extended relatives and friends.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Martha Stall; a sister, Karen Stall, and a grandson Nicholas Xavier Stall.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church.
