Dale Everett McCargar, age 85, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 24, 2023. Born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on March 10, 1938, Dale grew up a proud Cardinal in Newton, Iowa. He went on to graduate from Newton High School in 1956 where he played football and ran track all 4 years, and still currently holds the school record for the 100-Yard Dash.

Following his graduation, he went on to attend Drake University where he was a member of the Football Team. The highlight of his football career was the 1957-58 season where the Bulldogs went 7-2 beating both Northern Iowa and Iowa State and appearing in the Sun Bowl on 1-1-1958 vs Louisville.

His passion for Drake University didn’t stop when he graduated in 1960. His love for the Bulldogs only grew with time and was something that he carried with him throughout his life. He was a season ticket holder of Drake Men’s Basketball for over 65 years and served as a Head Line Official of the Drake Relays for many years as well. Dale made it his mission to instill that same love and passion for the Bulldogs, especially Drake Men’s Basketball, in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and his mission was very successful.

Dale was preceded in death by Roseanne McCargar and is survived by their children, Sue (Jim Coggi), Duke (Hollie), Dee Dee (Rob Davis), Kris (Dan Schechter), and Rob (Rene); thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two on the way. He is also survived by sibling, Janice Eilander.

Dale will be laid to rest next to his wife Karen in a private memorial service for his family on January 6, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
