Daniel Curtis Spring passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny.  Dan was born November 17, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Bill and Mary Spring.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (517 SW Des Moines St) in Ankeny; with visitation at 9:30 a.m. The service will be live streamed at https://bit.ly/htlc-funeral.

Memorials may be directed to Ankeny Presbyterian Church in memory of Dan.

Dan contracted measles at age three which led to Encephalitis, resulting in intellectual disability.  We are thankful vaccines are now available to prevent such illnesses and complications.

Dan was a Boy Scout and participated in Special Olympics.  Dan graduated from Ruby Van Meter school in Des Moines.  He also enjoyed bowling and square dancing with the “Star Spangled Swingers”.

Dan moved to Ankeny with his parents and worked for over two decades as a sacker for Dillows SuperValu, and Hy-Vee grocery stores; retiring in 2011. He was a longtime member of Ankeny Presbyterian Church and maintained many cherished friendships within the congregation.

Multiple health issues resulted in his move to Sunny View Care Center in 2018, where he particularly enjoyed watching old TV westerns and playing bingo.

Dan is survived by his sister, Kathy Ellett (Dan); uncle, Jim Spring (Loraine); nieces, Sarah Ellett, Whitney (Richard), and Kate Ellett Pendleton; a great niece and two great nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunny View Care Center, particularly Michelle and Amanda for their wonderful care for Dan, and Suncrest Hospice for end-of-life support for Dan and his family.

Condolences may be expressed online at: www.AnkenyMemorial.com
