David E. Orth, 80, of Ankeny, formerly of Burlington, passed away March 2, 2022.

David was born May 14, 1941, in Burlington, Iowa. He was the son of Leo E. and Mary Ann Meyer Orth. On December 7, 1991, he married Judy Kay Hackbarth in Burlington.

Mr. Orth was a 1959 graduate of Norte Dame High School. He started working at J.I. Case Company in the welding department and later transferred to the shipping department. He was promoted to Supervisor in assembly and later as General Forman in the shipping and assembly departments. He retired in 2000 after 41 years of service.

After retirement Mr. Orth drove a school bus for Burlington School District, and after moving to Ankeny, Iowa he worked for Super Wash and Truck Country. He was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church in Burlington and Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny. He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1962 until 1968 with a rank of Sergeant E-5.

David is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Teresa (Ken) Weiland of Newton, Doug (Diana) Orth of Farmington, MN, Scott (Christine) Orth of New Market, MN, and Jill (Kevin) Lees of Mt. Pleasant; step daughters, Kristine (Shane) Hammond of Carlisle, and Stephanie (Patrick) Edenburn of Bondurant; 12 grandchildren; siblings, Carol (Joe) Bentler of Lincoln, NE, Pat (Steve) Vorwerk of Waukee, Nancy Tarbell of Burlington, and Joyce (Daniel) Hoffman of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Stephen and Kathy.

The family requests no flowers or plants and to please make a memorial donation in David’s name to Burlington Notre Dame Schools.
