On Saturday, October 15, 2022, David Lester Chilton, 79, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was received into the presence of the Lord.

David was born August 21, 1943, in Corydon, Iowa. He grew up on a farm in Southern Iowa. David accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a young boy and continued to be faithful throughout his life. David served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was a proud American and Veteran.  In 1967, David met his bride Karen Perry at church. Together they raised two boys in Des Moines. This summer they celebrated 55 years of marriage.

David started his own plumbing business and later retired from the Des Moines Post Office. In his spare time, he enjoyed auctioneering, watching NASCAR and attending Knoxville Sprint Car races. Above all else, David’s faith and family were most important to him.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022. Both services will be held at Memorial Services of Iowa, 4208 N. Ankeny Boulevard, Ankeny, Iowa. The funeral service will be live streamed at the following link: https://vimeo.com/event/2522501. Burial will follow the funeral service at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.

If you desire to give a memorial gift in lieu of flowers, please make donations payable to the family to be shared between Community Baptist Church of Ankeny and Veteran organizations.

David is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Denis (Rae) and Scott (Kaylee); grandchildren, Holly (Tyler), Brooke (Rylee), Christian (Kelsey), Hunter, and Ethan; five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Paul (Phyllis) and Betty Gray.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Verna Chilton; and stepmother, Vina Chilton.
