David L. Smith, 65, of Des Moines passed away on December 15, 2017 surrounded by his family.
In honor of David’s request he will be cremated and a gathering will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 6 PM- 8 PM at the Tavern (1755 50th St, West Des Moines, IA 50266).
David was born November 24, 1952 to Marcella and Bert Smith in Knoxville, Iowa. He was the owner operator for D. L. Smith Trucking; he hauled for Iowa Prestressed Concrete.
He enjoyed animals, hot rods, car shows, working on cars with his boys and playing with his grandkids.
David is survived by his wife Kathie; sons, Nathan of Des Moines, Nicholas (Crystal) of Ankeny, Tyler of Norwalk, Brandon of Des Moines and Grandchildren Skylinn, Jaden, Cammi, Kyra, Elleianne and Brielle; Sisters, Bev Harmisson of West Des Moines, Janice (Phil) of Florida and Bernice (Daniel) Kain of Prairie City.
David was preceded in death by his parents Marcella and Bert Smith.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
The family would like to thank Unity Point Home Health Care for the many years of compassionate care they provided David and the Taylor Hospice Hospice for outstanding care and compassion.
