David Smith

September 21, 1952 - January 20, 2023

David B. Smith left his home in Ankeny, Iowa and crossed the rainbow bridge to Heaven on January 20, 2023.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Rodney (Jill) Smith, Andrea Lynn (Heath) Higginbotham, Nathan (Whitney) Smith, Ryan (Natalie) Smith, Matt (Ashley Kay) Smith, Tyler (Nicole Durflinger) Smith, Ben (April) Blunk, Jason Blunk, and Luke Blunk; twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; siblings, Steve (Kathy) Smith, Mary (John) Barker, Ginger (Duane Olendick) Smith, and Michael (Lori) Smith; and his beloved dog, Monte;

Dave retired from the trucking industry and loved spending time with Judy, Monte, and his children. He enjoyed going to the Iowa State Fair for many years, and washing and waxing his truck. He fed and cared for the stray cats in the neighborhood that visited him everyday. Dave and Judy (with Monte) would go for rides around area lakes, campgrounds and auto dealerships, and he would ride his scooter with Monte at his side. He enjoyed camping, large bonfires and pointing out the stars and planets in the night sky. He had a big heart, loved his family and will be greatly missed.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Louise Smith; and two brothers, Dennis and Donald.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
