I was very sorry to hear about Dennis' passing. He was a kind, funny and talented man who had an impact on so many people. I have many fond memories of spending time with Dennis and his family, and I will always be grateful to Dennis and Karen for welcoming me in their home during my teen years. Sending my love to you all.

Karen, You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers ?. It was my pleasure to hear Dennis’ wonderful voice in choir at Grace Church! I remember one particular Sunday that the choir was singing and Dennis was sitting in the congregation. I told him that he was going to have to sing extra loud , so that I could hear him in the choir loft!?? May God give you His Peace and Comfort!?? Sincerely, Cheryl Vice

Mr McGettrick was one of my favorite teachers. Spent 7 years in junior high and high school band and enjoyed every minute of it. Still pull my saxophone out now and then just to play and enjoy. He was just an outstanding teacher/educator and gave our school such a pride in our large band! Whether it was marching, concerts or contests he made us strive for perfection. And he also coached wrestling which was always excellent> Such wonderful memories and he will be greatly missed. With best regards and sympathy for his family.

What a gift he has been to so many of us. He always looked for the strengths in students and then built on and expanded those talents. He treated us as young adults of value and expected respect and courtesy in return. Not just for himself but for others as well. He taught by both providing direction and modeling behavior he expected around him. As students in band and choir, we wanted to go to his class, we looked forward to going to his class and we tried our very best to give him performances he wanted and deserved. It's hard to think of an appropriate thank you for someone who so positively influenced so many, but I do say thank you, thank you, thank you. You will be missed but so many of us will carry your name in our hearts as a way of embracing and never forgetting the 'life lessons' you taught us.

What a great great man, and person and teacher and coach! I learned a lot from him while in band and singing and wrestling at Herington High. He took the time to stay in touch through all the years. My thoughts are with you—family—-and I know there are more beautiful people in the world because of him. ??

Mr. McGettrick was my favorite teacher hands down! He took the small town of Herington, KS and made them into the “Marching 100”, and the school population was just over 200! Almost half the students were in band. He shared his joy of music with us, but yet demanded respect and perfection. Can you imagine today, teaching a class of 100 kids, by yourself, well Mr. McGettrick could, and he did it amazingly. Then you add coaching wrestling to that, and as head coach he taught and motivated students to go to State in Wrestling. WOW. One year I was in high school, he had 5 students go to state. I loved reconnecting to him on Facebook in his later years, he never forgot his students. Thank you Mr McGettrick for giving of yourself to develop thousands of kids like me to love music, learn to work together as a team, and make that awkward transition into adulthood. You were an Angel on Earth, now you are an Angel in heaven. Sending my thoughts and prayers to your family.
