Born on November 13, 1933, to Henry and Margaret Gardner on the family farm in Mauston, WI, Dee’s life journey was marked by resilience, warmth, and a commitment to family.

Dee’s pursuit of education led her to Iowa State University, where she graduated in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. She went on to a career as an interior designer with Ethan Allen, leaving her creative imprint on spaces. Her journey took her across various states, including Texas and Wisconsin, before returning to Urbandale and later Ankeny, Iowa.

Throughout her life, Dee touched the lives of many through her work. She served as a lunch lady at the Karen Acres School in Urbandale and worked at the JCPenney Home Store.

Dee is survived by her daughters Dana Moraniec (David), Gretta Bukovitch (Joe Wilp); her grandchildren Jessica Moraniec, Alex Moraniec (Emily), Benjamin Johnston (Kristi), Aron Tolin, and Hannah Tolin; her great grandsons Owen Moraniec, Waylon Moraniec, and Cooper Johnston; her brother Richard Gardner and sister Janet Gardner.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Margaret Gardner, her brothers Hank Gardner and Ronald Gardner, her sister Bernadine Pelton, her daughter Jan Schnelz, and her granddaughter Stefanie Johnston.

The family expresses gratitude to the staff at Mill Pond in Ankeny and UnityPoint Hospice for their exceptional care over the last four years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mill Pond and UnityPoint Hospice.

Dee’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, and she will be remembered for her enduring love, compassion, and the positive impact she made on the lives of others.
