Donald E. Penquite, 87, of Ankeny IA went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 19, 2017.
Don was born on September 5, 1929, in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from Luther High School, Luther, IA in 1948 and served three years in the U.S. Army in Korea. He returned to Iowa and became a well-known remodeling contractor and landlord in the Des Moines area for more than 60 years.
Don took pleasure in riding horses, raising cattle and being the Ankeny 4H Club leader for 20 years. He enjoyed participating with and watching his children and grandchildren play sports and helped start the Ankeny Booster Club. He also was a member of the Ankeny Lions Club, Historical Society and was instrumental in starting the Drake Neighborhood Association.
Don was a devoted husband and loving father who is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara, his four children: Rhonda Penquite, Cumming, IA, Kent (Pam) Penquite of Ankeny, IA, Shannon (Danny) Lingerfelt of Alpharetta, GA and Blake (Kris) Penquite of Altoona, IA and five grandchildren: Zachary, Brandon, Annie, Abby and Ami Penquite. He is also survived by his sister Janice Hutchinson of Burbank, sister-in-law Gillian Penquite of Grants Pass, OR and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 5-7pm at the Ankeny Evangelical Free Church 118 N.W. Linden St. Ankeny, IA, and A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017, also at the church.
