Donald “Don” Gene Hansen, 80, of Ankeny passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2023.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Ankeny Presbyterian Church (317 SE Trilein Dr.), with cremation to follow.

Don was born February 3, 1943, in Bennezette Township in Butler County, Iowa, to Harley and Jessie Hansen. He attended Plainfield High School and graduated from Hawkeye Community College.

Don served six years in the Iowa National Guard ending in 1970. He worked for John Deere as a machinist for 41 years, before retiring in February 2005.

Don had a lifetime love of cars. He raced cars for over 20 years through the National Hot Rod Association. Over the course of his lifetime, Don owned and raced many hot rods and sports cars. He also enjoyed singing and was a member of church choirs and the Ankeny Community Chorus for a number of years. Don was active in his church and served as a deacon for many years.

Don is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his daughters, Kelly Meiners and Kim (Eric) Rust; his grandchildren, Donovan Meiners, Devin Meiners, Brooklyn Rust and Chloe Rust; his sister, Rowena (Harry) Johnson; brother, Gordon (Diane) Hansen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Jessie Hansen; and his sister, Marilyn Foss.

In lieu of flowers, please send live plants, as these will be planted in a special place in his honor or memorial contributions can be made to Ankeny Presbyterian Church (317 SE Trilein Dr., Ankeny, IA 50021).
