Donnie Broshar

February 12, 1951 - August 3, 2022

Donnie Ray Broshar, age 71, passed away peacefully on August 3rd, 2022 in his home in Slater, IA, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 12th, 1951 in Centerville to John and Lola Yvonne (Harrison) Broshar. He was a 1969 graduate of Centerville High School, and 1973 graduate of Iowa State University. He also received his master’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State University).

Don and Diana Marie Keller were married on June 24th, 1972 in Numa, Iowa. This past June the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary with their family.

He worked in several capacities for Indian Hills Community College from 1973-1977 and Iowa State University and University Extension from 1977-2018. Don also volunteered with Youth Shelter Services for many years, serving on the board of directors for 28 years. He also served on the Slater Library Board and the Ballard Community School Board.

Don strived to cause others to think about their life and their place in the world. He worked to lead others to reflect upon their own journey and what they wanted to achieve in life. Don loved to watch Iowa State Cyclone basketball, read, and sit outside on the deck.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; their four children and spouses: Nathan and Irene (Gomez) Broshar, Ryan and Ashlee (Jarosz) Broshar, Joe and Michelle (Broshar) Feldmann, and Kyle and Cris (Prins) Broshar; ten grandchildren, Uriel and Gabriel Broshar and Joseph and Anna Basinski; Riley and Reagan Broshar; Aiden and Avery Feldmann; and Owen and Liam Broshar; his father, John Broshar; sister, Don and Dixie (Broshar) Thomas; and nieces and nephews.

Don is preceded in death by his mother, Yvonne; grandparents, Ray and Lela (Kerlin) Harrison and Theadore and Ruth (Foster) Broshar.

There will be a private interment at the Slater Cemetery. Friends and former co-workers will be invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life to be determined at a later date.
