Dear Diana and family, As you know, Don has been a very important part of my life for nearly 30 years. I first met him as a summer 4-H Assistant supervising 4-H'ers at ISU Summer Conference, then as a 4-H & Youth Leader in NE Iowa. When I returned to ISU to complete my Master's degree, Don figured out a way to have me as his Graduate Assistant in Training & Development. We spent that 12 months solving the world's problems. π My task was to creat a library check-out system for his many, many books. I don't think I finished. LOL. As his graduate assistant, I also learned the "correct" way to vacuum carpets - both directions. I still think of Don every single time I vacuum. π We also shared a love of ISU Basketball. I would be so excited when Diana decided she didn't want to go to a game. He'd stop by my office, and I would drop everything. He and I attended a game this past year, smiling and cheering our new coach. Don has been my most influential person, mentor, and friend. When I returned to work at ISU in 2015, Don and I reconnected and would regularly have lunch and continue to solve the world's problems. He always held such faith in me and what I could accomplish. I am so very honored that your family allowed me to share him throughout the years. He taught me so much about life and moving forward. I was so excited to get Don on LinkedIn a few years ago, and he started writing posts once he retired. We should make those into a book. I am so very sorry for your loss. Don's legacy lives on in Diana, his children, and his grandchildren. He also has left a legacy of healthier, better-communicating adults throughout the state of Iowa and beyond. He was an expert in youth development work, team building, and collaboration. He was someone that always brought out the best in people. His leadership has impacted thousands of people and will continue to allow many individuals to look for collaborative solutions for many years. My dear friend, Donnie. You will not be forgotten. Love to your family, Karin Lawton-Dunn

I had the privilege of working with Donnie for many years through Extension. He was definitely a class act...thoughtful, purposeful, and a man of great integrity. Donnie always encouraged others to seek the best and truly shown a "light" to those he encountered.

I worked in The ISU Extension IT department for several years, in the 4H Bldg where Don had his office. A fun memory I have of Don is the day I went to his Retirement workshop. He was the leader of the group. Privately, we both talked about not really wanting to retire, but it just seemed at our age, that it was the right thing to do !! I truly wish Don would have had many more years of retirement to enjoy. He was such a kind man to all, and my heart hurts for his wife and family to loose him so suddenly. May God bless each of you with the knowledge that β Love Never Diesβ. With fondness, Dee Weiss

My thoughts and prayers go out to Diana, Nathan, Ryan, Michelle, Kyle and their families and Uncle John . He will be missed. He was taken way too soon. I will try to focus on memories from Broshar family events and times at the farm as a kid. Hugs to all. ??
