Doris Marie Broshar, age 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of August 5th, 2021 at Bishop Drumm in Johnston, Iowa.

A visitation will be 10:00 a.m.-12:oo p.m., Monday, August 9th at Memorial Services of Iowa Funeral Home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd).  Funeral Service will follow at 12 p.m., also at the funeral home.

Born on September 30, 1937, Doris grew up in Chariton, Iowa, where she graduated high school in 1955. Upon graduating, Doris relocated to Des Moines and began working at a bank downtown, where she met a charming young man by the name of “Skip” (Ronald Broshar). After a period of courtship, the two lovebirds wed on November 28th, 1957, and eventually settled in Ankeny, Iowa, where they were blessed to raise their son Scott. Over the years, Doris was welcomed into the homes of many, offering both her cleaning services and friendship to anyone with an open door.

Throughout her entire life, Doris prided herself on being a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  Doris was known to everyone for her exceptional cooking, including her famous pumpkin bars, tenderloins and fried chicken, her sarcasm and wit, her unique figurative speech, her adoration for animals, including her kitties Cassie and Baby, and her love for anything pink or purple.

Doris was preceded in death by her father and mother, Dennis and Mildred Halferty; siblings, Michael, Nita, Dwaine, and Donald; and her caring husband, Ronald “Skip” Broshar. Doris is survived by her loving sisters, Shirley Hamilton, Kay Hoffman, and Sandy (Jim) Hoffman; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jodi Broshar; and two granddaughters, Taylor and Hannah Broshar.

While our hearts hurt for the loss of our sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, we are comforted that Doris is at peace and with our Heavenly Father. To honor Doris’s memory and love for animals, we ask that all donations go to AHeinz 57 Pet Rescue & Transport.
