Dorothy “Dee” Helen Beckley, 96, of Ankeny, IA passed away peacefully on November 10, 2021. She was born September 26, 1925 in Nevada, Iowa, to Frank and Mary Elizabeth Ackerman. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1943. She lived in the Ames area most of her life where she married Russel Beckley in the summer of 1961. Over the course of their life together, their love carried them to Keokuk, Iowa, and North Platte, Nebraska, before returning them to where their life together began. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, cook, and baker. She devoted her life to taking care of her children & grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Handsaker (Melanie), Mark Handsaker (Linda), Bruce Beckley (Joan); and daughter, Kimber (Beckley) Predmore (Donald); sisters, Margaret Oakland, Mary Landis, and Mary Ackerman; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Beckley; infant son, Ronald Handsaker; parents, Frank and Mary Elizabeth Ackerman; brothers, Francis Ackerman, and Larry Ackerman; infant brother, Paul Edward; sisters, Jean Cavender and Evelyn Dyer; granddaughter, Auna Laye Beckley; and grandson, Tyler Jenkins.

A memorial for the reunited couple will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 with graveside service starting at 9:30 a.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa, followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E. 1st St.) in Ankeny Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Our Lady Immaculate Heart Catholic Church or The Puppy Jake Foundation (service dogs for veterans).
