Dr. Richard Wayne Houg, 76, of Ankeny, Iowa, entered his wonderful Savior’s presence on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Methodist Hospital due to complications of Covid-19.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Ankeny Baptist Church (2842 SW 3rd St Pl). Funeral service will be Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 10:30 a.m., also at the church. A luncheon at the church will be provided following the service. The funeral will be livestreamed at https://livestream.com/ankenybaptist/events/9828897

Dr. Houg was born February 26, 1945, in Fergus Falls, MN, to the late Gerhart and Margaret Sara (Beach) Houg.  Richard received Christ as his personal Savior at the age of nine and dedicated his life to Christ to preach the Gospel at age fifteen.  He graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis and Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary.  Richard married Barbara Jean (Inabnit) in Kalispell, MT on July 28, 1967.

Pastor and Mrs. Houg loved the pastorate.  He served as associate pastor at Saylorville and Waterloo.  In his ministry, he pastored at Galilee Baptist in Cedar Rapids, Calvary Baptist in Forest City, First Baptist in Eldora, First Baptist in Pana, IL, and First Baptist in Creston.  In 1994, he was called to be the 8th president of Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary in Ankeny.  He served as the college president for twelve years.  He dearly loved the people in each church and the college, serving by God’s grace and for His glory.

In retirement, Dr. Houg and Barb spent winters in Mesa, AZ, often preaching in various assignments.  When in Iowa they took great enjoyment in watching their grandsons in their cross country and track events.  He enjoyed watching the boys grow and it brought him great joy to spend time with family.

Dr. Houg is survived by his wife, Barbara; his two sons, Gary Robert and Stephen Michael (Holly); two grandsons, Carson and Collin Houg; sister, Karen (Jim) Montgomery; and brother-in-law, David Olson.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhart and Margaret Houg; his brother, Gary Robert; and his sister, Mary Olson.

Memorials may be sent to Faith Baptist Bible College, Iowa Regular Baptist Camp or Ankeny Baptist Church.  While he will be greatly missed, we rejoice that he is home in Heaven with his Savior and we look forward to seeing him again.
