Ernest “Ernie” Foster, of Ankeny, died November 24, 2021 at Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, IA. He was born to Segil and Marie Foster on January 4, 1937 at home in rural Madrid, IA. Ernie attended rural Boone County and Madrid schools, served in the Army and graduated from Iowa State University. He began his career as a history teacher in Dallas Center. He met his future wife, Jane Parker, while both were teaching in Stuart. They later moved to Nevada for one year. They moved to Ankeny in 1969 and he was a counselor at Ankeny High School where he remained for 29 years. Ernie enjoyed reading, playing golf and traveling. He especially loved exploring historical landmarks in the United States and Canada by car. Ernie and Jane drove to all 49 states and on four of the Hawaiian Islands.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Jane; son, David (Tracey) Foster of Johnston; daughter, Diane (Layne) Monroe of Ankeny; grandson, Ben Monroe; and nephew, Greg Foster of Madrid. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ted; and nephew, Eric.

A private memorial service will be held at Memorial Services of Iowa at a later date with burial following at Avon Cemetery in Des Moines.
