Estella was born October 14, 1927, to Lester and Florence Douglas in Springfield, IL, as the youngest of six children. Her family later moved to Southern Iowa and then to Des Moines, where she met and married William “Bill” Wilson. God blessed their marriage with two lively sons, Stephen and Douglas. Besides the duties of wife and mother, Estella worked at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Iowa Realty, and Iowa D.M. National Bank among many other places. In retirement years, Estella and Bill drove school buses in Indianola.
Bill and Estella had enjoyed both ballroom and square dancing from their early days together. Estella tried a wide variety of adventures from golf to SCUBA diving to ziplining. She was great at sewing, including formals and wedding dresses; an outstanding cook, especially when it came to pie baking! Serving others always seemed to be her middle name!
Bill and Estella were active members in Bible studies and First Federated Church for many years. Through the years, they had numerous close friends in the Immanuel Class there. God blessed them with 74 years of marriage. In 2010, Zoey, the lovable dog, joined them to become a beloved companion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; her siblings, Mary Barnosky, Mildred Mudd, Raymond, Eugene, and Harry Douglas; and her oldest son, Stephen. She is survived by her son, Douglas (Cindy) Wilson, daughter-in-law Nellie Wilson-Stirm; grandchildren, Stephanie Bamberger, Andrew (Jolene) Wilson, Kelly (Patrick) Williams, John (Zsofi) Wilson, Jeffrey Wilson, Wendy Wilson; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She loved well because she knew how much God loved her to give his only Son and now rejoices in Heaven forever!
