Francis “Franny” Johnson, 85, of Ankeny passed away May 13, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, after a lengthy illness.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday May 18, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ankeny.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2016 at Durant Cemetery, Durant, IA.
Franny was born November 27, 1930 in Durant, IA, to Frank and Florence (Finck) Johnson. He served with the Army during the Korean conflict, and after returning home, he was married to Joan Rottman, November 27, 1953. Together, they had two daughters, Linda and Betty.
He worked for the City of Durant in various positions until 1963, when they moved to Ankeny. He then served as the Public Works Director for the City of Ankeny until 1972. Until his retirement in 1997, he worked as a salesman for Municipal Supply.
Franny was a charter member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a member of American Legion Albaugh-McGovern Post #42, and a member of the VFW Boline Manfredi Post #9662.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and coffee with friends @ the Rusty Zipper Club.
Franny is survived by his wife Joan; daughters, Linda Cherry of Henderson, NV, and Betty (Ken) Hopkins of Marion, IA; grandchildren, Kevin (Karmen) Hopkins, Kallie (Michael) DeKock, Jake Cherry, and Luke Cherry; great-grandchildren, Kellen Hopkins, Kenley DeKock, and Kaleb Hopkins; brother, Don (Karen) Johnson; sister-in-law Sherry Johnson; brothers-in-law Carl Rottman Jr. and John (Sally) Rottman; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerry, brother-in-law, Kent Rottman, and nephew, Timothy Johnson.
Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston, or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
