Garold Ray Quick, 80, of Ankeny was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ July 15, 2017.
Garold was born June 2, 1937 to Harold and Leona (Leggett) Quick. They lived on a farm just north of Saylorville. He attended Saylorville Baptist Church where his parents were charter members, until he went to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.
Garold attended Nagle School through 8th grade and graduated from Ankeny High School. He was in FFA, 4H, Class Plays and football. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the age 12 under the ministry of “Happ” Mann. He felt called into the ministry at the age of 17.
Following High School he graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. Returning to Des Moines he was Bible Club Director for Youth for Christ and was on the Youth for Christ Board where he met Marilyn Spears. He was drafted into the army, but instead chose to join the Marine Corp.
Garold and Marilyn were united in marriage at Saylorville Baptist Church on February 17, 1961. They soon moved to Peoria, IL where he was assistant Director of the Peoria Christian Center and then Director before he decided to go to Fort Wayne Bible College where he earned his BA in Christian Education.
He served as Christian Education Director at the Missionary Church at Fort Wayne while finishing school. Then moved to Riverside, California where he was the Christian Education Director at the First Baptist Church for 7 years. He Then took advantage of the opportunity to move his family out of the California smog to the clear skies of Iowa where he became the Director of the Greater Des Moines Christian Center for 10 years. After recovering from a serious mower accident at the Christian Center, he served as Director of the Family Life Center at the First Baptist Church at Liberal, Kansas. He then returned to Iowa again to serve as Pastor of the Metz Community Church, Newton, IA for 10 years. And lastly he had the special privilege of serving as Pastor of the Senior Citizens at Saylorville Church for 8 years, which put him right back where he started from. It was a great journey.

Garold’s life verse was:
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12: 1 & 2

Garold is survived by his wife Marilyn of 56 years; children, Mark (JoLynn) of Polk City, IA, Janelle (Tyler) Williams of Gamer, IA, and Bryan (Mary Chambers) of Johnston, IA; five grandchildren Jarrett Quick, Alex Quick, Seth Williams, Anna Williams, and Madison Williams; sisters, Naomi (Dick) Miller, Ellen (Doug) Smith, Patty (Dave) Walborn, and brother Arnold Quick; nephews and nieces, cousins, and many friends.
