Gary Alan Waller passed away surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on March 30, 2022.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2022, with visitation at 3:30 p.m., at Ankeny Memorial Funeral Home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.). To view the live stream of Gary’s service, please follow this link: https://vimeo.com/694984577

Gary was born January 22, 1948, in Iowa City to Edmund Henry and Mary Magdalena Sophia (Vanderschaegen) Waller. The family moved to Ankeny in 1964 and Gary graduated from Ankeny High School in 1966. Soon after, Gary joined the US Army where he served, stateside, during the Vietnam War. After his service, he met Barbara Louise Sidoner and they were married on November 20, 1971.

Gary spent his life surrounded by family and friends. Aided by decades in sales, Gary never knew a stranger and had a friend around every corner. He was proud of his roots and always wanted to give back, including a long-term volunteer role with the Ankeny High School Alumni Association.

Gary’s loves in life were his family, cars and rock ‘n roll. He loved getting out on the open road with the roar of a big engine and a foot to the floor. He traveled the world with Barbara and showed his kids so many of the spectacles this country has to offer. Every good road trip has to have a great soundtrack and Gary always had the right tunes. When not traveling, Gary enjoyed spending time with friends, participating in his Corvette club and having family home for the holidays.

Gary is survived by his sons, Mike (Liz) and Steve; his brother, Chuck; his sister, JoAnn; and his grandsons, Sam, Toby and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barb; his parents, Edmund and Mary; his brother, Don; and his sister, Barb (Waller) Andrews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
