George Russell Trowbridge

September 30, 1949 - May 17, 2021

George Russell Trowbridge, 71, passed away May 17, 2021 at MercyOne Des Moines.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Pine Hill Cemetery.

George was born September 30, 1949 in Redfield, Iowa to James and Darlene (Dickey) Trowbridge. The family moved to Stuart, Iowa, and he graduated high school there before going on to join the US Navy. During his time in the Navy he fought in Vietnam and was very proud of his service. After serving in the military he began a 25 year career working as a pipefitter at Firestone. George married the love of his life, Debra Stevens, on February 14, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Depending on the day, George could be a quiet, laid-back man, but if you brought up some of his favorite topics of sports, boats, and especially his beloved Hawkeyes, he could talk your ear off.  He loved his dogs and gardening, as well as just spending time outdoors.  He also enjoyed riding his Harley trike and wintering in Naples, Florida.

George is survived by his wife, Debra; sister, Linda “Renee” Hoy (Jerry); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Ryan; and his parents.
