Gerald Lee (Jerry) Mass passed away peacefully on September 13, 2017 at his home in Madrid, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church (104 S. Market St. Madrid, Iowa). A visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday Sept. 15th, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, IA)
Jerry was born on January 17, 1938 to Herman and Agnes Mass in Council Bluffs, Iowa where he was raised and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School class of 1956. He married Flo Ann Pickerill on March 14, 1959. They moved to Ankeny, Iowa in 1971 and raised their family there. His career was in heavy highway and bridge construction including running survey crews laying out the interstate highway system, and as a project manager/engineer on several bridges throughout the Midwest including the High Trestle Trail Bridge in Madrid, IA.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Madrid, Iowa. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved time in the outdoors hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Flo Ann; four children, Kurt (Marlene) Mass, John Mass, Tom (Susan) Mass, and Kathleen (Paul) Robertson; grandchildren Melissa (Kacy) Reeves, Matt Mass, Ashley (Barry) Knowles, Alicia Mass, Megan (Marcus) Delaney, Amy Mass, Jacob Robertson, Zachary Robertson, Benjamin Robertson, Luke Robertson; three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jim, from Henrietta, Texas, Bob, and Ron from Council Bluffs.
Memorial contributions may be made to St John’s Lutheran Church in Madrid, Iowa.
