On Sunday, October 31, 2021, Gerine R. Corbin received her promotion to glory as she went running into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father! Gerine’s long journey home began July 29, 1929, when she was born on her family’s farmstead in rural McCallsburg, Iowa. The last of nine children, her parents were Corneil and Amanda Erickson. She attended school in McCallsburg and graduated in 1948.

As Gerine continued life’s journey, she was married to Robert M. Myers and lived in Ames, Iowa, where she would embrace the challenge of raising five sons: Rod, Dale, Bob, Mike, and Chris.

Gerine was not afraid to work hard and do what she needed to do to provide for her sons. As her kids moved into their adult lives, she married Orville Corbin in 1972. Gerine enjoyed serving the Lord through her secretarial work at University Lutheran Student Center on the Iowa State campus. Later, she managed the Salvation Army Thrift Stores in both Boone and Ames. She and Orville enjoyed a crafting business of making Dip and Drape Dolls which they would sell at craft fairs around central Iowa.

Gerine went on to work in the bakery at both Hy-Vee stores in Ames and finally retired when she reached the age of 80.

Gerine was a selfless person who always put the needs of others before her own. That’s who she was…a giver!  She loved her little house on Ross Road, where she welcomed anyone and everyone into that special place. She loved to bake and share her kringla, pies, and rolls!

As her later years slowed her pace a little, she continued to serve others by being a listener and an encourager. She exuded love for others, but especially towards her many grandchildren.

As she entered the final years of her journey, she moved to Westhaven Community in Boone, Iowa. Her faith in God and His promises continued to flourish as she took great delight in encouraging and nurturing others through her transparency and sharing her spiritual walk.

In her final months, Gerine’s physical decline accelerated her spiritual desire to be with her Lord!!!  She would praise Him daily, by reciting scripture, singing His praises, and remembering His promises. She would want us all to know that God will never leave you and will never forsake you once you take His hand!

As Gerine neared the finish line of her earthly journey, she so desired to claim the inheritance of God’s promise to her. To be with Him, in all of His glory, in His heavenly kingdom…And to be reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her.

We thank God for the inheritance of faith that Gerine has passed on to us and we delight in knowing that she will spend eternity in His holy presence!!!  Love you Mom…BIG TIME!!!

Gerine was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Corbin; parents; eight siblings; daughter in law, Laurie Myers; as well as her son, Dale Myers. Survivors include her four sons, Rod (Janet) Myers, Bob Myers of Ames, Mike (Laura) Myers of Boone, and Chris (Paulette) Myers, Boone; dozens of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A small service will take place at Grace Community Church (625 S. Division) in Boone on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.  Memorials will be given to some of Gerine’s favorite charities and may be sent to Chris Myers, 560 Linden Lane, Boone, IA 50036.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Services of Iowa.
