James E McKinley

October 6, 1937 - March 10, 2021

James Earl McKinley, 83, passed away March 10, 2021 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny.

Jim was born Oct. 6, 1937 to Gene and Martha McKinley of Chariton.  Jim graduated from Chariton High School.  He enjoyed playing the drums and served as Drum Major for the award-winning Chariton Legion Band.  He enjoyed golf, pool and a good game of double pinochle.  Jim also coached girls softball for several years.

Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Susan; his children, Jon (Michele) McKinley, Jeff McKinley and Karen Slagter; grandchildren, Ryan (Eliece) Lathrop, T.J. (Anna) Lathrop and Kara Lathrop; great grandchildren, Grayson and Henley Lathrop; and his brother, Bob McKinley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
