James Edward Hoffman of Polk City, IA, formerly of Perry IA, passed away April 29, 2023, at home surrounded by family following a seven-year courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born February 14, 1949, in Browns Valley, MN to Edward Hoffman and Agnes (Wika) Hoffman. He was the second of six children.

After graduating from Browns Valley High School in 1967, he then enlisted in the United States Army eventually serving in Phu Bai, Vietnam.

James was united in marriage to Marcia Tieskotter on August 5, 1972, in Decorah, IA. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1976.

He worked for Cargill/West Central for over 30 years.

Jim enjoyed spending time with family and attending his children and grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events.

Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife of fifty years, Marcia Hoffman of Polk City, IA; children, Sarah Hoffman of Polk City, IA, Zachary (Wendy) Hoffman of Polk City, IA, and Jacob (Bridget) Hoffman of Iowa City, IA; eight grandchildren: Noelle, Noah, Caleb, Isaac, Jory, Oliver, Skylinn and Jayden; siblings, Michael (Toni) Hoffman, Diane (Don) Heck, Rose Kaufman and Barbara (Ed) Hazelton; brother-in-law, Bill (Barb) Tieskotter; and sister-in-law, Shirley Usgaard.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Yvonne Kaufman.

According to his wishes, no services are planned. A celebration of life will be planned for the family this coming summer.

The family would like to thank Suncrest Hospice for providing excellent end-of-life care.
