Jeffery M. Miller, 71, passed away August 9, 2023, at home after a long battle with Small Cell Lung Cancer with his family by his side.

Jeff graduated in 1972 from Tech High School (now Central Campus). At the young age of 13 he started his first job at the Boys Club of Des Moines (where he set the record for sit-ups) for only $.75 cents/hr. He remained there until he was hired at Bankers Life operating computers. From there, he was hired at Bookey Pack. After Bookey, he worked for National By-Products alongside his father Marion, and brother Richard, with Harold L. Armstrong (sister Judy’s father) as their boss. Then, Jeff spent the better part of his working career at Goodyear Tire, retiring 30 years later.

In retirement, he followed his passion for billiards and brought TAP Pool League to Des Moines and remained the Owner/Operator for 15 years. He would often be taking teams to Las Vegas to play in the National Pool Tournaments held there.

Jeff loved to bowl, and was very proud of achieving not 1, but 2 perfect 300 games. Also, he was an avid bike rider, riding in RAGBRAI for many years. He was training to ride in the 50th anniversary of RAGBRAI with his daughter Christine until his diagnosis in Feb. 2023. Jeff can often be found relaxing at home, or outside enjoying the fresh air, and a bottle of Coca-Cola listening to anything rock ‘n roll.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Betty Miller; his two brothers, Benjamin and Richard Miller; niece, Cindy Miller; and brother-in-law, Mac McNamara.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Judy McNamara; son, Jeff (Elise); daughter, Christine (Lexi); his 3 grandchildren, Ryne, Payton, and Addison; as well as his 5 nieces, Vicky, Gerri (James), Erin, Betty, and Nicole (DJ).

Jeff will be cremated, and the family will hold a celebration of life at his home on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

Well wishes, cards, and flowers can be sent to the family.
