Joan G Johnson

March 23, 1932 - July 19, 2022

Joan Grace (nee Rottman) Johnson, 90, of Henderson, NV, formerly of Ankeny, passed away July 19, 2022, at Abington Manor, Las Vegas, NV after a lengthy illness with family by her side.

Joan was born March 23, 1932, in Moline, IL to Carl M. and Minnie (nee Kohnert) Rottman. After graduating from Moline High School in 1950, she was married to Francis “Franny” Johnson, in Rock Island, IL on November 27, 1953. Together they had two daughters, Linda, and Betty.

She worked for the Plow Planter Credit Union until they moved to Ankeny in 1963 where she worked for Ankeny Schools Food Service until her retirement in 1999. She volunteered after retirement in the Mercy Hospital Flower Shop until moving to Henderson.

Joan was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, a charter member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was active in LWML along with various local, state, and national school food service associations.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, playing cards, Bunco, and meeting with her “Coffee Gals.”

Joan is survived by her daughters, Linda Cherry of Henderson, NV and Betty (Ken) Hopkins of Wimauma, FL; Godchildren, Nancy Buchholz and Scott Petersen; grandchildren, Kevin (Karmen) Hopkins of Bettendorf, Kallie (Michael) DeKock of Waukee, Jake Cherry of Texas, and Luke (Misti) Cherry of Texas; great-grandchildren, Kellen and Kaleb Hopkins, Kenley and Adalyn DeKock, Mkynlee Hartland, and Kailyn White; brothers, Carl Rottman, Jr. of Rock Island, and John (Sally) Rottman of Minnesota; brother-in-law, Don (Karen) Johnson of Clarence; sister-in-law, Sherry Johnson of Tennessee; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; her parents; brother, Kent Rottman; brother-in-law, Jerry Johnson; and nephew, Timothy Johnson.

Visitation will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church (1100 SE Sharon Dr., Ankeny, IA) at 10:00am on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 followed by a memorial service at 11:00am. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the Durant Cemetery, Durant, IA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Joan’s name to Nathan Adelson Hospice, Las Vegas, NV.
