John B. McIntosh

July 30, 1938 - March 23, 2023

John Benton McIntosh, 84, passed away on March 23, 2023, at his home in Ankeny.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd) with visitation held one hour prior. Urn burial will follow the service at Lincoln Cemetery in Polk City, IA.

John was born July 30, 1938 on a farm near Madrid, Iowa, to Marion Edward McIntosh and Edith Beatrice Thompson McIntosh. He graduated from Madrid High School in 1957, then joined the Navy in 1959 and was attached to VQ2 Air Reconnaissance Squadron based in Rota, Spain. After an Honorable Discharge in 1963, he went to work at John Deere Des Moines Works in 1964. He married Jean Austin in 1968 and had two sons, Scott and Steve. He retired from John Deere in 1992.

John enjoying camping, fishing, golfing, and mowing the lawn at his son’s acreage.  After retirement, he and Jean spent over 25 winters in Mission, Texas where he organized the golf league and enjoyed numerous social activities.

He is survived by his wife, Jean McIntosh; sons, Scott (Donna) of Orlando, FL, and Steve (Kristi) of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jo DeHart, and Pat Belcher. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Owen Anderson; and sister, Carolyn Houge.
