Jonnie was born January 26, 1940 in Mason City Iowa to John and Faye Murphy. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1958 and went on to learn to be an IBM Key Punch operator and ultimately worked in banking for most of her career while raising two boys.

Jonnie met her soul mate, Donald Johnson, in Parents Without Partners. They were married in August of 1978 and moved to Ankeny, IA where they spent many wonderful years together until Don’s passing in August of 2007. Friends would describe Jonnie as fun-loving, high-spirited, a good loyal friend, and one who loved to joke and laugh. She had a strong Christian faith and had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing Christian songs every weekend at Prairie Ridge Church in Ankeny, Iowa where she was baptized in 2008. She was a huge animal lover and especially loved her dogs.

Jonnie is survived by her sons, David (Jennefer) Julson of Des Moines, IA, and Steven (Angela) Julson of Kansas City, MO; sister, Mary Ann Calverley (Mick) of Denton TX; sister-in-law, Sheryl Murphy;  four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Johnson; parents, John and Faye Murphy; and brother, Richard Murphy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
