Joseph Vanderah

November 23, 1953 - April 20, 2023

Joseph Henry Vanderah, age 69, was born on November 23, 1953, in Alexandria, VA and died on April 20, 2023, in Des Moines, IA from natural causes.

Joe lived in Ankeny and Des Moines his entire life.  He graduated from Ankeny High School in 1972 and then graduated with an Associate Arts degree from Grandview University.

He was very active in the Jaycees organization, holding nearly all local offices including President of the Ankeny Jaycees.  Afterwards he continued to be involved in the regional and state Jaycee organization.  For his service he was awarded the highest award an individual can achieve, being named a JCI Senator.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Esther Vanderah of Ankeny.  He is survived by his sister, Patricia (Ivan) Parker; brothers, Philip (Nancy) Vanderah and Steven (Lori) Vanderah; plus many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation and a short, graveside style service will be held in the chapel at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd) at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.  There will not be an organized service or luncheon.

In lieu of flowers or gifts you are asked to give a donation to an organization that helps those who are homeless.
