Ken was a true friend to the pork industry, to ISU, as well as me. I am glad to have had a role in hiring Ken to come to ISU in the early 2000's. Ken was a true champion. He followed the guidance of Dr. Christian, who was his major professor. His first priority was his family. His first professional priority was his students, both undergraduate and graduate. He was a scientist with a great mind who understood the pork industry well, and focused his professional efforts in ways to serve and improve the pork industry of Iowa, the USA, and the world. This was certainly recognized by his peers. He is survived by a great family at home, and an academic family of students and colleagues that will truly miss him. Rest in peace Ken.

Hadn't seen Ken in many years until this past summer when he and his wife were able to attend our FHS 40 yr class reunion. Was so nice to visit with them both and I am utterly shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to the entire Stalder family. FHS Classmate, Marty Symmonds

Ken was such a tremendous person - dedicated scientist, devoted teacher, good friend, and great father and husband. We will miss the sparkle in his eyes when talking about pigs and life. I always enjoyed his subte sense of humor and his humble laugh. I enjoyed watching him thinking and listening to him express his thoughts and opinions. The swine industry will miss this very gifted, talented, and loved professional. Rest in peace, My Friend!

Ken had so much common sense about animal breeding / swine production. His work on soundness actually aligned with what we see in commercial production. I always enjoyed visiting with him and appreciated his knowledge and friendship. My prayers are with you.

I am gonna miss my friend Ken Stalder! Grad school at Western Ky Univ was significantly better as a result of having an office mate like Ken. While we didn’t talk as often these days, when we did it could be for an hour or more. He would always talk about how proud he was of Lauren Sam and Will. My thoughts and prayers are with Cheryl and Ken’s entire family!
