A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (721 E. 1st St., Ankeny, IA). Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. following visitation at the church. Burial will take place at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. The funeral will be livestreamed at: https://youtu.be/uxxk9-onZpk. The family and church request that you please wear a mask to his services.

Kurt was born March 12, 1965 in Moscow, Idaho to Iwan and Claudia (Patterson) Teare. He grew up in Quincy, Florida where he loved playing in the Appalachian Woods and hunting squirrels, rabbits, and snakes. He also loved repairing and restoring classic Volkswagen Bugs, a passion he shared with his father. Along with the Bugs, he worked on and enjoyed driving dune buggies and dirt bikes.

After high school Kurt lived in Miami, Florida until he was called to his mission with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent his LDS mission in Sweden where he emersed himself in the Swedish culture. Kurt was a lifelong member of the LDS church.

When Kurt returned to the United States he settled in Gainesville, Florida while he attended the University of Florida. While going to school, he worked with the computer systems for the athletic department where he got to run the display board at the home football games. The display board he ran used software he developed. Kurt graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Operations Management degree and remained a lifelong Gator fan. He later went on to achieve his Masters of Business Administration in Technology Management degree from the University of Phoenix in Tampa, Florida to help further his career in the area of technology. He advanced his technology career through the years and managed Information Technology at Arnold Palmer Golf, Quality Distribution, two hospitals, and finally at 3M.

Kurt loved living in Florida, especially going to the beaches, camping on the beach, and jet skiing. He was an avid scuba diver and got to dive in Belize, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and several places offshore from Florida. As much as he loved open water diving, he loved diving and exploring all the Florida caverns. He left Florida in 2005 and moved to Iowa to continue his career, but returned to marry the love of his life, Mary Pawletzki, in Coco Beach, Florida on July 9, 2016.

Kurt was a hard worker and was always working on the house, his cars, or his career. He liked going with friends and family to amusement parks like Disney World, Sea World, and Adventureland. He also enjoyed skiing and hiking in the mountains of Utah with his brother, Brad. He LOVED attending his kids’ activities, dirt biking with them in the backyard, and exploring the woods when they were younger. Mary and Kurt enjoyed planning trips with the kids and driving the red convertible to Kansas City for weekend getaways. Kurt could be seen driving his sporty convertible around town and listening to his favorite songs by Ozzy Osbourne and Alice Cooper during the summer for some “sun therapy”.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Teare; children, Madison Teare, Maysa Teare, and Christine Teare; mother of Madison and Maysa, Melanie Conner Teare; step-daughters, Grace Sandvig and Harmony Sandvig; siblings, Steve (Terrie) Teare, Brad Teare, and Kelly (Abraham) Hall. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister-in-law, Deb Teare.
