Larry Douglas Akin, 64, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 11, 2016.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday February 15, 2016, at Slater Baptist Church with burial to follow at the Slater Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Larry’s life.
Larry was born December 18, 1951, in Chance, Kentucky to Oris Guy and Dorothy Mae Akin. He attended Faith Baptist Bible College, where he met his beautiful wife Mary Beth Landolt. They were married on August 4, 1973, and were happily married for 43 years in Slater, IA. Larry worked at Lennox Industries in Urbandale, IA, for 36 years, and attended Slater Baptist Church. Larry is remembered for his love of ISU, and enjoyed attending football games with his friend Michael Wald. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, who will always remember him as Papa Larry.
Larry is survived by his wife Mary (Slater, IA), daughter Jennifer Jasper (Nevada, IA), daughter Jillian Snook and husband Christian (Ankeny, IA), son Jeff Akin (Eugene, OR), brother Glenn Akin and wife Ramona (Columbia, KY), brother David Akin and wife Pauline (Columbia, KY), sister Cathy Grant (Adolphus, KY), and sister-in-law Sandra (Russel Springs, KY). Also survived by grandchildren Nichole Jasper (Guttenberg, IA), Christopher Jasper (Guttenberg, IA), Hannah Jasper (Guttenberg, IA), Jackson Wald (Ankeny, IA), Madelyn “Maddie” Wald (Ankeny, IA), Birtukan “Birdy” Wald (Ankeny, IA), and Dexter McNeal Snook (Ankeny, IA), former son-in-law Michael Wald (Ankeny, IA), former son-in-law Terry Jasper and wife Kim (Guttenberg, IA), as well as countless extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Oris Guy Akin, mother Dorothy Mae Akin, sister, Enola Grant and husband Charles, brother, Hugh “Ricky” Akin, brother-in-law, Carlos Grant, and an angel infant, whom he is finally able to hold in his arms.
Memorials may be made to Mary Akin, to aid in medical expenses for Larry’s care.
