Larry Edwin Pitts, 72, of Maxwell, IA passed away on January 11, 2022 after a brief illness.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church (1102 NW Weigel Dr., Ankeny, IA). Vigil service will be held at the end of visitation at 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., also at the church. Burial will immediately follow Mass at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Larry was born in Des Moines, IA on November 6, 1949 to LeRoy and Marie Pitts. He graduated from Ankeny High School in 1967 and went on to attend Grandview College. He also served four years with the Iowa National Guard.

Construction work and building was his passion. Larry was a builder of homes, barns, and other shelters for over 50 years across the state of Iowa. One of his notable projects was the Ankeny Historical Society Barn. His building career was a true testament to his character. He was as particular and detail-oriented in his career as he was in his personal life. The long-standing quality of his buildings paralleled his personal relationships.

In his free time, he enjoyed being outdoors, sprint car races, NASCAR races, watching the Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers, and gardening.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kimberli; stepsons, Sean (Crystal) Bruce and Brian (Jen) Bruce; stepdaughter, Cherry (Dale) Cooper; brothers, Bob Pitts, Joe (Peggy) Pitts, and Jeff (Sharon) Pitts; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Nicholas; sister, Cheryl Ann; brother, Roger; and twin brother, Lynn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Balance Autism Iowa.
